Be a man one feels safe with, not the kind one needs to be safe from!

Madhumita Shukla, Ruchika Girhotra, Jessica Lal, Preeti Rathi, ‘Damini’ and the ‘four year old who was raped just a day back’…these are not mere names…these are the proof of your defeat! Each day when you ask your mother, wife, sister or daughter not to go out alone, you defeat yourself. Each day when you oogle at someone, you hurt them but you hurt yourself more. Because with each passing moment and every gruesome incident, you are losing the trust you were once so easily bestowed with.

Today when we walk the streets we look at you like we look at the lion in the woods (minus the awe and pride). You appear to us like the problem that needs urgent solution, like a democracy with a dictator at the helm of the affairs, like frooti gone bitter! You have lost the respect you commanded and most often than not demanded. Your ‘mean man mentality’ has proved to be a curse for your own self, for you have lost what you desire most – Us!

Dear Men, it took millions and millions of years for human beings to evolve, for you and me to be what you and me are or rather, look like. It took a lot of care, patience and perseverance to make you what you are or rather were intended to become. The problem that you have plagued the society with has been a bane for you. And the worst part of it is that even your fellow men who are not so ‘able’ as you are do not support you. You have made two teams in one group. And we shall support your ‘not so-good as you’ mates to eradicate the disease that you have become.

Yes, we have had enough. When you were working, we were not sitting in the comforts of our homes doing nothing. We were working as hard as you were or may be more because we were trying to make a place for ourselves in the society that you have lead since even you don’t know when. It is high time we stand up and fight for what is right. To speak up. To let our voices be heard. To let the world know we are here and this time around we are ready to break the purdah and strangle the problem with the same ‘chunni’!
